This is such a helpful book! It's perfect for sensitive people who are here to share their gifts with the world but need assistance with setting good boundaries. Good boundaries create great self-care. And, with good self-care, we have the energy and enthusiasm to help others along their path.

Virtue wrote this book for people new to the spiritual journey as well as individuals who have been working to make the world a better place for a long time. She starts in childhood where many learn to protect their sensitivity in a sometimes harsh world and family environment. She instructs the reader about how to set boundaries without guilt or fear. This includes being loving, avoiding being a pushover, learning good communication skills, and being one's own authority figure.

The section on Developing Assertiveness in Relationships includes a very helpful chapter about handling toxic relationships. It goes into great details about recognizing and effectively addressing interrupting, correcting, one up-manship, clingy neediness, stalking, guilt-tripping, angerholism, unreliability, nosiness, and grumpiness. Virtue is so clear that these behaviors that people often accept are hurting them emotionally and really not OK. She gives the reader permission to walk away from these dysfunctional situations if necessary. I found the specific recommendations in this section very insightful.

I personally loved the section about following dreams and life purpose. This section alone is well worth purchasing the book. It ends with a discussion about Energy Work For Empaths, How To Have More Time and Energy, and activism.

Highly recommended!

It is my opinion that the majority of us here on earth are earth angels and can use a little advice on how to say “No”, as there is a difference between being too nice and being loving. There are a few definite signs as pointed out by Doreen how one can tell they are in deed an earth angel. If you can relate to any of the following then you too are an Earth Angel and can benefit by the words of wisdom offered in ASSERTIVENESS FOR EARTH ANGELS.
Not very competitive, want everyone to win and be happy
Feel like an outsider and sometimes struggle with fitting in
Tend to take on other people’s troubles. You may even encounter situations where strangers will approach you and tell you their troubles.
Struggle with your weight. Earth angels carry extra weight to shield themselves.
Very sensitive
Truth be told, you like plants and/or animals better than people!

The book goes into great detail as to our purpose as earth angels and how we can assert ourselves so that we are not taken advantage of but offers great tips on to protect ourselves energetically using such techniques as, Shielding, Grounding, Clearing, and Angel Lights.
Life is all about lessons learned, part of our life purpose is learning how to love but in learning how to love we must also learn to have healthy boundaries with others. Loving someone is much different from enabling them!

I was not financially compensated for this post. I received the book from Hay House for review purposes. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.

This was the first book I have ever read by Doreen Virtue, and as I read, each chapter seemed to be a reflection of myself. I strongly identified with her description of an "Earth Angel" (one who is highly sensitive, with an innocent outlook on life, and believes in God's loving power), and found that I seemed to fall into the many pitfalls that these Earth Angels suffer.

I am too darn nice for my own good. With each page, I found myself thinking "Yep, that's me." or "Yep, I do that too!" I am a people-pleaser. I feel that I can't be happy unless everyone else around me is happy too, and when I can't make everyone happy - I get frustrated and feel like there is something wrong with me. This book was like a journey of self discovery, where I was recognizing all the unhealthy patterns I am prone to fall into.

In each chapter, Doreen touches on subjects such as recognizing and handling toxic relationships, how to stop people-pleasing, how to be assertive with a strong-willed child, and be assertive with authority figures in a non-aggressive and more loving way. She also addresses on how important it is for us to love ourselves, and to take care of ourselves so we can have more time to do the things that are important for us.

If you're too nice for your own good, and think it's time to take your power back and stand up for yourself and your feelings - I'd say give this book a read. :)
