Visualization for Weight Loss

Mar 16, 2015

MaryMikawoz

The “Jon Garbriel Method” was the first book written by this author. I read it and thought it was interesting but did not actively pursue it or the visualization that he provided. Now, that I am faced with this second book, I am more intrigued. Jon uses visualization much in the way that Shakti Gawain suggests in her book, “Creative Visualization.” He has taken it one step further, however, and has made some excellent visualizations that look they would work.

They encompass using white light and predominantly the navel as a focal point. Other areas include the forehead. Both of these are near important chakra points and so the visualizations are more powerful.

Jon discusses stress, trauma and fear as factors in being overweight. It is not simply a process of calories in and calories out otherwise diets would work but they don't. Dieting is an industry onto itself. The food industry system is into marketing processed foods that are cheap to produce and sustain on shelving and so not that good for the human body. The more raw and alive products with one ingredient is much more valuable to the body than products that have been laced with herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, chemicals and dyes.

Jon believes in visualization and offers a 16 week program near the end of the book in which he uses a variety of topics to serve as focal points for morning visualization sessions. In the evening, there is a visualization that you can fall asleep to.

Overall, I found the book to be informative because he backs up his work with scientific researched work which is nice to see. The most compelling part of the story is Jon's own transformation. He went from plus 400 pounds down to 186 pounds. Plus, he does not have extensions of lose skin all over the place. In fact, he looks as if he never was fat. This is compelling evidence to me and although it may be anecdotal evidence, it is pretty convincing to me and serves as a ray of hope.

I was not financially compensated for this post. I received the book from Hay House for review purposes. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.

The PlantPlus Diet Solution

Feb 23, 2015

MaryMikawoz

If the Pareto Principles is correct a 20% change in your eating habits can make an 80% change in your diet. This book is full of science bites – chapters explaining medical terminology and nutrition. It was so technical at times, that I wish I had pictures of the part of the body that the author was talking about or the sample of fatty-acid chains as examples to better illustrate the words.

Nonetheless, the book goes through quite a few studies to highlight the most recent findings. Many scientific studies can be geared a certain direction especially if an industrial giant is sponsoring the study or a scientist has a certain predisposition or bias.

The discussion covers proteins, carbohydrates and fats. There is a great deal of research on fats, especially those that are good for you which ones are not. It continues to discuss the fat versus calorie perspective and the breadth of diets from Atkins to the Zone Diet. It discusses a fair bit about gut microbes and also the Standard American Diet (SAD). It discusses epigenetics which is how the environment affects your genetics.

Largely, this book lets you design your own diet based on your own needs. It talks about having low-glycemic foods instead of high-glycemic foods in your diet. It talks about increasing your plant intake so as to provide fibres and needed foods for the bacteria in your gut. It talks about how many illnesses will be reduced or eliminated depending on how well we are able to create a plant-plus diet.

I would recommend this book if you are interested in your health and would like to lose weight. Finally, at the end, there are some recipes made with super foods.

The Top Ten Things Dead People Want to Tell YOU

Dec 29, 2014

MaryMikawoz

I start off this review by mentioning what Mike Dooley signficantly writes in the Epilogue: “Some of what I shared might be extremely offensive to those who are not ready (or don't want) to hear it.” Mike indicates that what he has written about may be hard for some people to see, hear and acknowledge.

Mike normally writes about the Law of Attraction where “Thoughts become Things” or TBT. He was a teacher on “The Secret” produced by Rhonda Byrnes. He is able to present how our thoughts plus actions in a positive direction will help manifest our desires. Our vibe is very important in how we end up getting what we want in life.

Mike covers ten things that dead people would want you to know. They are:

1. We're not dead
2. There's not such thing as a devil or hell
3. We were ready
4. You're not ready
5. We're sorry for any pain we caused
6. Your dreams really can come true
7. “Heaven” is really going to blow your mind!
8. Life is more than fair
9. Your “old” pets are crazy as ever
10. Love is the way; truth is the path

Life is a school and we are here to learn. Mike Dooley speaks of reincarnation and the fact that most of have lived many times. He explains some of the victimization problems as to very young souls who have most likely not lived many lifetimes and so are scared and deal with anger and other hostile emotions. He indicates that life is fair because we do attract absolutely every experience to us although he does try to deal with the “unfairness” of being a victim. However, he says that love is the ultimate goal and that love is in everybody and everything. He believes that initially people have the right intention of being good but that some people get lost or misdirected.

Mike supports his beliefs based on a number of books that he has read which he included in a recommended reading list at the back of the book. I would recommend the books of Dr. Michael Newton who is a hypnotherapist and has regressed people to in between lives. His website is here: http://newtoninstitute.org/ The interesting point is that despite different people's religious and cultural references, their view of “heaven” is very close to one another. Mike seems to discuss some of the points that Dr. Michael Newton also speaks of.

I was not financially compensated for this post. I received the book from Hay House for review purposes. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.

The Big Book of Angel Tarot

Nov 18, 2014

MaryMikawoz

This book is compendium of information that goes along with the Angel Tarot Card Deck. The beginning of the book, reviews the history of tarot and how this deck compares to the traditional Rider-Waite deck. These cards are positive in nature while still dealing with events in a person's life that may be perceived as negative or difficult to deal with. For this reason, the cards do not have a reverse meaning. If the cards are upside down, you simply put them the right direction and read the reading based on what has been written symbolically, according to the picture itself and based on both angel numbers and astrology.

The Major Arcana is now the Dreamer's Journey. You follow him/her as they progress through life until you reach the World along with Archangel Michael. Each Major Arcana card has an Archangel attached to it which gives you further information as to how the card works in the spread or reading.

The Minor Arcana has pip cards which are the numbered cards and the court cards which include the Page, the Knight, The Queen and the King. The Ace starts off each suit. The suits have been changed to Fire, Water, Air and Earth.

The Fire has dragons and wands in it, Water has cups in it plus merpeople, Air has unicorns in it (swords in previous tarot decks) and Earth has fairies and gold coins in it.

I studied this book by having physically organized my cards according to the Major Arcana and Minor Arcana in the order they are presented in the book. Then it took time, however, I studied the card, then read the reading, reflected on the card some more and paused to think about it all. Then, I proceeded to the next card. In time, the whole deck and book were finished.

My head is now full of imagery, stories and symbolism. It is an appropriate book to have as a reference guide to go along with the Angel Tarot Cards. The little guide book that comes with the deck are good for basic information and then this big book gives you far more detail. This deck obviously took into consideration a lot of factors.

E Cubed

Oct 18, 2014

MaryMikawoz

This book offers 9 energy experiments for manifesting magic and miracles in your life. E3 (E Cubed) is a successor book to E2 (E Squared). It is based on the new age idea that you cause your reality based on your thoughts. Quite simply, if you are negative and complaining, then you will experience “bad” things. If, on the other hand, you continue to be positive in thought, your experience will also be positive.

This talks about the world being abundant. Pam points towards nature and the way that everything is perfect in that world. People, on the other hand, have hosts of negative ideas streaming through their consciousness.

It has been a 100 years since Marconi claimed he could make radio frequencies that would cross the ocean in a wireless way. People laughed at him and said he should be put in an insane asylum. He proved them all wrong. We can't see the waves of a microwave oven, but it is there. We depend upon cellular phones, but you can't see those energy waves either. We continue to use what we do not understand.

Until something is done, people think it can't be done. This is the same for breaking the 4 minute mile. Once it was accomplished by Roger Bannister, many others thought “If he can do it, why can't I?” Many went out to break the 4 minute mile afterwards despite people thinking it was impossible to do so. Life is this way too. If we see a person doing something extraordinary, it won't take much more convincing to follow through in the same fashion.

This book gives you 9 experiments to try. E2 had the first 9 experiments for producing actual events instead of just new age theory being discussed. Pam Grout wants you to try these experiments so that you can prove the abundance of the world and how you can obtain the positive energy into your life.

This book was an interesting read. I found parts of it would be hard for say an immigrant or someone from another culture from understanding the references. Pam uses a lot of slang and normal cultural references from what goes on in North America. From references to TV shows like Flinstones, Friends and the Seinfeld shows, it helps to know what has been going on in the cultural world. There are many other references to movies, other books, and quotes from people which you can understand if you have been alive for awhile and can relate to these iconic references that only make sense if you have lived through most of them.

The original E2 book came out around the time of “The Secret” but was not well received because of the dominance of the book and movie coming out. It has since been rebranded and sold under another title, that of E2 and now we have the next edition in the series, E3.

I would recommend this book for anyone interested in quantum physics or new age philosophies.

Angels of Abundance

May 28, 2014

Book: “Angels of Abundance” by Doreen and Grant Virtue
Book Review by Mary Mikawoz

The bad part of this story is that I have misplaced the “Angels of Abundance” book. The good part of this story is that this will be a review based on what I remember. I finished the book a week ago. It was a good short read.

I found the book to be a good basic book for beginners. It talks about the various Archangels that are able to help you. It also speaks of the book “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. What it does is to point out that the message of “The Secret” was not complete. It is one thing to have positive thoughts, however you also need to pair this with action of a similar path. A person can dream all they want of possessions and what not but that is not the single way to get it or them. Action is required as well.

Well, I realized I did need the book as a reference so I searched around and I found the book. The subtitle says a lot about the book - “Heaven's 11 Messages to Help You Manifest, Support, Supply and Every Form of Abundance.” Of primary point is that you need to ask for help. It is written that if you do not ask, you can not receive. You have been given free will and with that comes the responsibility for you to ask for help. It is heard and will be given. Of second importance, is that “The How is Up to God.” This means that in his time and space, the item or experience will be given when it is for the better or best of all people concerned. Each chapter comes along with more information for the abundance.

I think one of the most important chapters had to do with “High Energy = Faster Manifestation.” It covers food, exercise, stress and keeping motivated. By keeping your energy high, the abundance will appear more quickly. These are ideas reinforced by Abraham who is channelled by Esther Hicks. You have to be in the flow and not resisting in order to achieve those things that you wish to receive.

The book overall is, like I said, a basic book. Many of the concepts, I have read before but it is nice to see the whole thing presented here. It is the energy work that you need to focus on.

Quantum Creativity

Apr 21, 2014

MaryMikawoz

First of all, I would recommend that you read this book over a period of time. It is the type of book where reading one or two chapters at once is enough. I read through the chapters fairly quickly and I believe I would have gotten more out of it if I had taken due time and consideration.

This book does cover many of the quantum theories with some drawings, explanations and examples.

I found that as I continued to read, the understanding on my part improved. I found the first chapter hard to get into but then found the second chapter more easily. The sections of the book include: Steps to Understanding Human Creativity, the Creative Process, Can Anyone be Creative?, New Paradigms in Old Creative Arenas, Spiritual Creativity, Bringing Creativity to the Center of Your Life.

One of the most ways to get more creativity is “Do, be, do, be, do” which means doing something and then just being. The author gives examples as to how this works with your creative part of your brain. You can work on writing a book which is a creative part of the brain but then you need to do something else that is not related like doing the dishes or cleaning up the house. You need to change up what you are doing so that your creative mind can continue to work on your problem, issue or creative pursuits while it is not directly focussed all the time on the same issue.

The author brings through many Hindu and Buddhist analogies or story lines to understand and relate to the creative brain and how it operates.

Overall, I found the book good but with some reservations. The author assumes you know and understand “Archetypes” as defined by Carl Jung. He does not give examples of Archetypes until page 132. For this reason, I recommend having a dictionary handy for difficult terminologies. As well, you can have the internet close at hand to get further explanations if you wish. When I read the book, I was not near a connected computer so all my references had to be taken from the text itself.

This book is good for people who are willing to think about things. The book, as I have said, is complicated in places but it manages to offer another view of physics by talking about consciousness.

How to Stay Sane in a Crazy World

Apr 21, 2014

MaryMikawoz

This book is an exercise of love by the author. The author had been battling cancer. She set upon doing something positive and loving for herself. She used her photographs as inspiration for beauty and reminders of what can be done to take care of oneself while one was battling a disease.

There are three parts of the book. They are in the format of “mornings, afternoons, and evenings.” The morning inspiration section contain short one liners indicating what you can do for yourself like “Dream about far-off lands.” The afternoon perspiration section has a bit more text about tips such as a “Secret Sisterhood.” And finally the last section on evenings exhalation deals with what you can do while battling an illness such as dealing with burnout and making your own kindness kit.

I believe this book would find a good place on a coffee table so that people can peruse the various sections of the book. Otherwise, it might be a thoughtful gift to give to other people how are facing illness and disease. It might help them recover because it reminds people of the good things in life.

Angel Detox

Feb 24, 2014

MaryMikawoz

Book: “Angel Detox” by Doreen Virtue and Robert Reeves N.D.
Book Review by Mary Mikawoz

To begin with the front cover illustration of the angel is beautiful. However, I had a different perspective when I started to read this book. I was not exactly sure what I would find in this book called “Angel Detox.” Some of the advice is good but I have read similar information in other books like the books by Kevin Trudeau. There is a detox for 7 days for items such as detoxing from sugar, soda drinks, caffeine, alcohol, drugs, smoking and so forth.

There is quite an extensive discussion about chemicals in many of the products we use regarding Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO). You are given advice as to what to buy and what not to buy because of the changes made to the products such antibiotics, pesticides and other contaminants which are for the benefit of the big company but not the health of the population.

I enjoyed reading about Emotional Detox. I liked what was said in terms in dealing with negativity. I also found it interesting that the authors depend upon a lot from prayer and particularly in God, the Archangels and the Angels. To me, I question whether one is hearing from Archangels or just from your Higher Self with advice on how to live a better life. I suppose it could be a matter of perspective and philosophy on this issue.

The book also discusses flower therapy, essential oils, and crystals in many of the chapters. I wonder how this information came out that a certain Archangel is attached with a certain type of flower. Who knows this information? How is it validated? There is quite a bit of information on flower therapy, essential oils and crystals as it relates to detoxing.

This books tries to address many subject matters. Some of the main information is repeated a number of times but I guess the authors are trying to make sure we get the point.

I would recommend this book for people who do want to detox their lives.

Power Words

Feb 03, 2014

MaryMikawoz

I just finished reading this book, “Power Words, Igniting your Life with Lightning Force” by Sharon Anne Klingler. Overall, it is very well written and an easy read.

I found that this is a basic book regarding the power of words whether they are affirmations, prayers or trigger words. If you have ever read any material by Shakti Gawain or Louise Hay, then you are knowledgeable about affirmations. Sharon Anne Klingler shows how words and even thoughts are important in that they carry either positive or negative energies. Sharon discusses a number of studies to show how positive prayer affected some patients as compared to the control group.

She compares a number of words by asking you to go into yourself with eyes closed to feel the energy of the word. For example, if you close your eyes and think of a word such as “hate,” you may feel a heaviness in your body, perhaps in your heart area. Then, you are to blow out that feeling and replace it with the word “love.” Again, you may feel something in your heart area but this time it is lighter and not as negative as the “hate” word.

I found that doing these exercises reinforced how negative words ended up showing up in my lower chakras and sometimes in my heart chakra. I found that positive words ended up showing up in my heart chakra and above. There is a direct relationship of feeling between the two energies of the two words.

Doing this feeling work of energetic words in my body was a visceral experience for me. I really felt it in my core.

I have not read any other material or books by Sharon Anne Klingler so I was pleased to see that this book was well-written based on what she said and how she did give case examples of people who have changed their lives while focussing on power words. I found some of the material reminiscent of what Rhonda Byrne talked about in “The Secret.” The difference is that it is not only the word that is followed but also the need to make some action towards the goal or objective. You can not idly stand by and hope your situation will change on its own without some work on your part.

I particularly liked the reference to Dr. Masaru Emoto who photographed water crystals and how they were affected respectively by words. If the words were negative, the water crystals were not clear and in most cases deformed or malformed. However, if the words were positive, the water crystals were beautiful and symmetrical.

I also appreciated knowing which areas the Archangels are responsible for when invoking higher beings to help with your problems.

All in all, after having read and reflected upon this book, I would recommend this book for people who are interested in learning about energies and are new to the New Age philosophies or if you would like a recap or reminder of how important your words are to manifesting your desires.

Forgiveness

Jan 15, 2014

MaryMikawoz

If you are going to read “Forgiveness” by Iyanla Vanzant, be prepared to do some work. Not only does Iyanla give heart-warming personal stories to make the connection between what has happened in her life to requiring forgiveness, you will be writing responses to questions and learning to tap your problems away with ProEFT.

It is funny because although Iyanla gives space in the book to write, I did not think to actually write in it until half way through. Instead, I rewrote every word of the question section which took a lot of patience on my part. Next time, I would have used the space required.

With the ProEFT, I found it necessary to get more information and so I went to the website run my Lindsay Kenney and looked up more information. I also took advantage of viewing youtube videos that were on her website. I was getting confused between reversal statements and setup statements. I seemed to have figured it out and used it with the karate chop meridian points.

As for the tapping, there are 14 meridian points that are affected. It was interesting trying to go from an intensity level of 10 down to a 0. It took patience and effort.

This book also has a CD in it. I enjoyed the Stillness Meditation and the introductions to the new day. I personally find Iyanla's voice soothing so I enjoyed listening to her.

There are other stories in some of the daily work. There is a little note above each section to indicate who wrote each section, however, I did not notice it until later and so I was confused about how the story related to Iyanla as the stories were different story lines. Just remember to read all the print.

Overall, this book is a good workbook. My only criticism is that it should have been formatted in a larger workbook format such as “Living in the Light Workbook” by Shakti Gawain. I found it hard to keep the book open to the pages I needed while copying down information. I had to memorize parts to get it transferred properly. Plus, I found it hard to keep the book open on sections that provided very specific tapping instructions on the 14 meridian points which were most helpful and gave me a better direction of what I was supposed to be tapping to. Finally, I would like to say that the tapping process is something that I was familiar with, however, never really truly worked on it. It seemed to work and I will be keeping up this type of work now that I understand it better.

If you are into having more peace and love in your life, I suggest this book for you. If you have enjoyed seeing Iyanla on TV in “Iyanla, Fix My Life” or on Oprah then this book is right in line with her other work. I found I enjoyed “Every Day I Pray” and also “Until Today.” Her work is continuous of the themes she works with in terms of compassion and forgiveness, to name two areas. It is time to move forwards with your life by forgiving everyone for everything.
